13 activists from throughout Europe participated in a 3-day workshop at the European Parliament where they discussed radicalization, integration and way to address the threats from radical Islam. The workshop followed an earlier gathering of activists in June 2010. The goal was to explore the potential for activists to collaborate on a pan-European basis to confront radical Islam and improve integration of Muslims into European society.
The workshop included discussion on the challenges facing liberal Muslims, especially from radical Islamists, and explored the reactions to the current European debate on Muslim integration. Participants updated each other on their activities since the first workshop in June.
Members benefited from presentations on how EU institutions work and learned how to engage with politicians and policymakers. An MEP who is a member of the British Green Party addressed participants. The workshop concluded with an agreement to form a more coordinated network to help empower current and future activists.
